With theme “I Believe…”, Walk For Autism Jakarta 2013 has been successfully held on Saturday, April 06 2013. According to head of Yayasan Autisma Indonesia, the event organizer, Dr.Melly Budhiman, SpKJ, the event was a yearly agenda of the foundation, concur in accordance with World Autism Awareness Month which takes place every April. Since it was Saturday, there couldn’t be a car free day in the city. Only one side of each road was closed for the event. Even so, many people have gathered in Monumen Nasional (Monas) area from 06.00. The event was organized by Yayasan Autisma Indonesia and Solidaritas Istri Kabinet Indonesia Bersatu (SIKIB), supported by Berlari Untuk Berbagi, Aqua, Pupuk Indonesia, Pharmaton Kiddi and many more endorser with objective to raise awareness towards Autism, society is expected to be more open and care for people with Autistic, and also to clean up negative stigma about those individuals with Autistic’s ability, independency and cooperativeness. In format of fun walk for good cause, Walk For Autism Jakarta 2013 was taking route from Monumen Nasional to Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, then back and finished in Monumen Nasional. Thousands people joined the long green march. Many banners were also held up, sounding many awareness towards Autism for example “Stop using the word Autism for jokes”, “Give Individual with Autistic chances to reach the future”, “Love Autism” and many more.
The event has won an award from Museum Rekor Indonesia (MURI). Spotted also in the event, many public figures were participating, for example Farhan, Ferina Widodo, Sandiago Uno, and Jaya Suprana. The long march was followed by many interesting performances. Marching bands, music performances by children with Autistic and umbrella painting also by children with the syndrome.
I personally suggest you to participate in next event if you did not make it to this year event. It is so much more to experience than what photos could ever capture.
